Name
Trends in Global Supply Chain Governance
Date & Time
Tuesday, November 8, 2016, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Description
Whether through transparency measures such as the UK Modern Slavery Act, public procurement such as the Federal Acquisition Regulation, or increased civil society pressure, companies must increasingly account for the behavior of actors in their supply chains. Building on these initiatives, governments are considering actively regulating global supply chains. Initiatives such as the ILO’s International Labour Conference Discussion on Global Supply Chain conclusions, efforts to tie the UK Modern Slavery Act to public procurement, the German government's efforts to (potentially) call for a “Global Pact for Sustainable Supply Chains” under its 2017 G-20 presidency, and the Swedish government’s call for a “Global Deal: Enhanced Social Dialogue for Decent Work and Inclusive growth” are all signs of increased pressure on companies to ensure strong due diligence across their supply chains. This panel will explore these trends and discuss the marked increase in attention on responsible business conduct in global supply chains, it will explore how EICC is engaging government and civil society to support harmonization of efforts as much as possible.
